Coast Guard Search & Rescue Exercise at
Youghal
on Sunday 28th May 2006
On Sunday, 28th May 2006, the Marine Emergency Services
demonstrated a full-scale search and rescue exercise,
which took place at sea and on the shore in the area between Green Park and the
Lighthouse on the coast road at
Youghal, County Cork. The Irish Naval Service and Air Corps, Civil
Defence, Ambulance Service, Gardai, Fire Service,
RNLI, Lifeguards, local fishing and leisure boats, and the Irish Coast
Guard participated in the exercise aimed
at raising the level of awareness amongst the public for safety on the water and
on the cliffs.
Cliff Teams, Lifeboats, Aircraft, First Aid Responders, Lifeguards, Helicopters,
Fire Fighters and Search Aircraft went
through their paces assisting sailing, fishing, canoe and wind surfing craft,
swimmers and cliff fallers in mock rescue
situations lasting about 90 minutes.
