A Dock Landing ship she was laid down in 1983, she was launched in 1986. Crew 350 sailors and 400 marines. She is armed with the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) launcher and Ships Defence System (SSDS). She can defend herself if required. Escorted by Naval Service Ribs, one on either side, she heads out into the bay She is 190m in length, her beam is 26m and draft is 6.4m. Her displacement is 16,261 tons (Full). Marines line the deck. In 2010 she helped out in Haiti following the earthquake there. She was also involved in the Exxon Valdez cleanup
