Looking for Paddy Orange from Portarlington

Tony Valente -- 2nd.March 2008

"I sailed as Ordinary Seaman on the IRISH SPRUCE in 1963/64 I think they were the years.
We joined the ship in Aberdeen Scotland and sailed to
Dublin then to Le Harve in France, Amsterdam, Bilbao then to Lake Charles
Louisiana then to Conarky West Guinea . Where Paddy Orange got sick he was taken to  the local hospital. I visited him a couple of times before we sailed to
South America. I think they flew him home some time later. I visited him
when I got home a year or so later. I was wondering how he is today.

I sailed on the IRISH OAK I think it was early 1963, we went up the Great  Lakes, I enjoyed this trip the best lots of overtime.
We picked up the new  Diesel Trains for CIE. They had five of the engines as deck cargo, when we  were sailing through Lake Superior we hit a bad winter storm the seas were

breaking on the deck and freezing in the cargo the crew spent the night  breaking the ice off the riggings and engines. Very exciting".
