02.00 Arrive Ringsend Gut.

02.10 Enter & fast in Ringsend Lock.

02.40 Fast in Gas Berth.

 

08.20 Commenced discharge.

 

11.15 Completed discharge.

12.00 Crew muster to prepare for sailing.

13.30 Sailing cancelled.

         Ringsend lock gates badly damaged and dock drying out.

 

16.00 Crew  c..... work for the day.

         M.V. on the bottom, dock drying out.

 

Watchman on duty.

Saturday, 7th May 1966

 

00.00 M.V. at Gas Berth in Ringsend Dock.

         Lock Gates damaged and dock drying out.

         Watchman on duty.

 

10.00 Crew on board pending ship will float and able to sail.

13.30 M.V. afloat in Gas Berth.

         Some water in Chair (?) locks; 4'6"  F,  7'00"  A.

13.50 Left Gas  Berth for locks.

14.10 Passed through Ringsend Locks on the level.

14.20 Made fast at Brittain Quay to load ballast.

 

Note. The lock gates were rammed by  the M.V. Manta which was leaving the Grand Canal Outer Basin.
The great flood of water carried the vessel out into the Liffey and Gas Company employees who were working
nearby thought that she would hit the campshire on the North Wall, just opposite the Point Depot.

 

The Dock was emptied once before this century in a similar incident on 30th March 1903 by SS Gertrude.
