Car Ferries of the Irish Sea
1954-2004
Justin Merrigan

In this highly illustrated bookJustin Merrigan looks at the story of the Irish Sea car ferry since 1954.
All the main routes including those from Lame, Belfast, Ballycastle, Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Rosslare and Cork
are covered, and all the ships that were used during this period are illustrated along with much information
about each one.
Ship design has changed dramatically over the last fifty years and on the Irish Sea in 2004 we have the
giant 208 metre Ulysses, with capacity for 1875 passengers and 1342 cars and the Stena HSS ships, which are
capable of more than 40 knots.
