Linda Hayes (Purdy) along with Ms. Rosemary Docherty were the
first female purser's in the 150 year history of the B+I Line.
Today (2006) Mrs. Hayes is a senior purser onboard the largest passenger car ferry in
the world and following her lead the management team of ten onboard the ship now
has 5 female pursers.
Also in 1987 the first women officer on a B+I ship Ms.Caroline Meaney, joined
the M.V.Tipperary.

Photo taken in the blacksmiths yard in B&I North Wall circa 1942, the
boy in the centre of the photo is a young John Walsh(14) from Seville
Place who started in the B&I in the blacksmiths yard before going on to
work as a checker and then working on the ships themselves. and a good
friend of my father. We have no other information about anyone else in
